"It Is Time"
Written and Performed by Sally Potter, 2020

"Three years ago, on a Friday afternoon at the Peanut Barrel in East Lansing, I made little up and down dashes on a napkin, sketching out a tune involving 'lies', 'fear' and 'hate'.  A few weeks ago, as the COVID-19 catastrophe was unfolding, I wrote the third and fourth lines to the verses, and added the tag. Last week, Dylan Rogers and I stayed eight feet apart as he recorded the song at his and Jeana-Dee Allen's Robin Theatre. Since then, videographer and Lansing Community College film instructor, Bonnie Sumbler has put together this montage to go with "It Is Time." Please sing along and then share this video with your friends. You are not alone. It is time."

The Mid-Winter Singing Festival has been renamed The Mid-Winter Singing and Folk Festival!

In an effort to offset continued rising expenses of the singing festival, the Ten Pound Fiddle, producer, has decided to expand the offerings of the weekend to include a Saturday evening concert involving three acts, and five instrument and dance-related Saturday afternoon workshops. What had been solely a singing festival is now a singing and folk festival.

On Friday night, song leader extraordinaire Dan Chouinard will lead a huge Community Sing. Saturday night's concert will feature sets from James Keelaghan, The Sweet Water Warblers, and Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. Ten Saturday afternoon workshops will feature five related to community singing and five which highlight instruments, dancing, and performance. Children's programming will include a FREE 11 am Saturday morning concert, featuring Mark Dvorak.

Under this wider umbrella of programming, even more fans of acoustic music can enjoy a full weekend of singing, dancing and incredible performances.

A note from Sally...

Six years!

It seems like only yesterday we asked the Mid-Michigan community to join us in a weekend of singing. You came, you sang, and have been supporting the Mid-Winter Singing Festival ever since!

This February, three Festival veterans, Joel Mabus, Sally Rogers and Claudia Schmidt will be joined by one of their favorite musicians, Frank Youngman. A member of countless bands and a mainstay at every Midwest folk festival, Frank is not only a superb musician, but he is a true perfomer - who knows how to share his energy and have a good time. We are very, very pleased that he can join us this year.

In addition to Frank, many new faces will be Saturday workshop leaders. We'll announce the 2008 workshop line-up on New Year's Day!

Are you a part of the Singing Festival's email list? Visit www.singingfestival.com and sign up for the once/ month email we send out about singing events in Mid-Michigan.

See you at the Festival!

Without you, there is no sound.

Sincerely,

Sally Potter

Sally Releases New CD with Pat Madden

Long-time musical friends Pat Madden and Sally Potter have collaborated with engineer/ producer Gary Reid on a new CD entitled, “it’s about time”. Each singer chose six songs she has always wanted to record. Then they asked pianist Ron Newman, bassist Ed Fedewa, multi-instrumentalist Joel Mabus, Second Opinion singing buddy Betsy Clinton, and soprano Barb Michelutti to join them in the studio. The result is a CD packed with full sounds on classic songs, including Moon River, Roseville Fair, and Forever Young.
